Week 18 (3-25-19) Transferred to New Area & New Companion !!!

Hey Family!
Bom Dia Tambem! So I did get transferred, to Americo Brasilience with Sister Carvalho as my new companion. She is super awesome but doesn't speak any English, but I am sure we will get by. I hear she is full of energy, so I am super excited about that.

I took a bus about 4 hours to get here.  I was reading the book of Mormon in Portuguese  because I had a goal to finish in 6 weeks, I was about 30 pages shy.  So I thought that I would finish reading it before I got to my new area.  Instead I ended up teaching someone the restoration and a little about the plan of salvation. Needless to say I didn't finish, but had a good conversation. When I was done talking, someone else approached me to ask questions.

UUUGGGGHHHHH! It was super awesome but now I am SUPER tired. OH well,  as I was packing my stuff, I realized that MAYBE, emphasis on the word "MAYBE" I have to much stuff. Oh well, tudo bem. Things that are life here, Jesus Christ, Acai, madauja, and chaos. Along with lots of other things.

Please continue to pray for me, time passes so quickly!  I look forward to next week.

Love you lots,
Sister Pierce

Week 17 (3-18-19) Miracles and Photos !!!

Bom Dia!
Tudo bem? Tudo bem!

Hi Everyone, I hope this past week was good for you. It was good for me! So what makes a successful missionary? In Preach my Gospel it says that when you feel the Spirit, testify to people through you.

I have so much to learn. This week I have been gone for 4 months, time goes by so fast!  Yesterday we had a miracle and had four people come to church!!  4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4  It was AMAZING!!!  Miguel, the father said to me " I want to be baptized because you touched my heart" In all reality it wasn't me, it was the Spirit, but my heart was so warmed by his comment. I have a feeling that I may not be here for their baptism, this Saturday we find out about transfers.  I want to send some pictures today.

The members here are AMAZING, and if I get transferred, I am really going to miss them. My favorite thing they say is "come mais sister" (eat more sister) They really make sure you are well fed. Thanks again for your love and support from everyone.

With Love from Brasil,
Sister Pierce

Week 16 (3-10-19) Simple things in life !!!

Hi Family & Friends,

I'm sad we were not able to talk this week. Its the little things back home in life (like good computers and internet)we take for granted when you don't have access to being in a different country.

"I am so happy when we share the gospel with others, we learn more! This is the lords way of helping us comprehend his gospel" by President Nelson

How true this quote is. I thought I knew the gospel before I left for my mission, but being here, has really helped me realize just how simple the gospel Is. Its so simple even a child can understand it. The same goes for our lives. Think for  a moment, are there things in my life that I need to simplify?

Being here in Brasil, has helped me to see that we don't REALLY need all the things we have. Like having a toilet seat, lol. Or a fridge that is taller than you? How about having a clothes dryer? Things these are all wonderful, and they are simple acts of how good we have it. And they help us to have a comfortable life. But when was the last time you thanked God for the small things in your life?

I promise you when you thank Him for these things, you will see how much your life has been blessed, and he will continue to bless your life. It is also a commandment to read the Scriptures and pray. When you do these BASIC things, you will notice a difference in your life, I promise you, because I know these BASIC things have a made a difference in my life.

If you aren't already doing this, whats keeping you from doing these things? You just remember that Christ suffered FOR YOU, HE SUFFERED. Let that sink in for a moment. When we make sacrifices, whatever they may be HE WILL BLESS YOU! I love being in Brasil, and really being humbled.

I will write more next week, this week we have interviews and then in about a week and a half we will find out about transfers. Until, then...

With love from Brasil,
Sister Pierce

Week 15 (3-4-19) Phone Call & Pictures ðŸ˜Š !!!

Dear Family & Friends !

Thank you for all of your love and prayers. This week was very special I was able to talk to Sister Pierce for about 20-25 minutes before her time was up and she had to go. This was the first time since Christmas I heard her voice.  Due to the limited time, she was only able to call and send some photos this week. She told me that she wants to call us every other week and send emails the opposite week.

Hearing Emma's voice was amazing! Her dog, Granby was so excited that he hopped up into the chair and put his snout into the phone as she was talking to him. As she kept talking, he wanted to find out how his Emma was inside the phone. He stayed there until our phone call was over.

In our brief conversation, she wanted everyone to know how grateful she was to be serving our Heavenly Father by sharing the gospel to her brothers and sisters in Brazil. I could feel her love for our Savior as she bore her testimony in Portuguese. I will ask Emma if she can send a short video clip of her speaking the native language sometime. You will be amazed to hear how fluent she has become in only fifteen weeks.

I will do my best to relay her message regarding the photos from memory. She was speaking so fast that she kept saying words in Portuguese and asked me what the word was in English that she was thinking of?   As much as I would love to play this version of Portuguese to English Scrabble, I wasn't prepared to communicate this way. I will be sure to have Google Translate open next time we speak.

She told me that Google Hangouts is the only authorized program in her mission besides her email: emma.pierce@missionary.org  she can use to talk, text and send photos. This app is available for Apple & Android phones here in the USA and is much easier for her to communicate thru if anyone wants to send her a message, she would love it.

Before she ended our call, she shared her testimony about miracles from our Heavenly Father and power of Priesthood Blessings. In the fourth photo below, the sister on the left wearing the hat found out that she had cancer and started chemotherapy.  Several months later, while going thru her treatments she kept getting sick and associated it with the side effects from the cancer and or treatments. Thru additional testing she found out that she was pregnant. Her doctors, friends and family wanted her abort the baby due to the high risk of serious birth defects or the possibility of the baby being stillborn.

They were also worried about her health and told her that if she stopped chemotherapy the cancer would continue to metastasize until it was no longer treatable and gave her a very low survival rate of less than a year. This Sister told her doctors, family and friends that she was not going to abort the baby and stopped her chemotherapy. She received a priesthood blessing and pleaded with her Heavenly Father to protect her and the baby during the remainder of her pregnancy. The time came and her son was born healthy without any defects or complications from the cancer. Additional testing showed that her cancer did not get worse as expected or predicted from her doctors.  She has continued on with her treatments and shares her personal testimony about her Father in Heaven and the power of Priesthood blessings.

Sister Pierce ended by asking us to continue to read the scriptures and pray daily. She also wants us to stay warm. She sends her love to you from Brasil.
