Week 66 (02/24/20) Small, Small, World !!!
Hi Family!
This email will be a little shorter since I spoke to you a few days ago. Things have been going well in my new area. I am absolutely loving it here!! Like I said before, It's pretty hot here and I get sunburned everyday, even after putting on sunblock. That's life here, lol !!
The last time I talked and updated my life it was Wednesday. So last Thursday our mission van left from Barretos to go to Ribierao (my old stomping grounds, lol) The van was scheduled to leave at 6am, but didn't get to our apartment until 7:45am. It was pretty frustrating, but finally we got on the road and I started singing " on the road again, I just cant wait to get on the road again. Making music Making music with my friends, I can’t wait to get on the road again". We arrived in Ribeirao about 9:30am. It is good to know that it doesn’t take an eternity to get to Ribeirao from Barreto’s, lol!
Anyhoo, well Friday was amazing,
and I loved the counsel for leaders training, and it was pretty cool. I learned
a lot, and they treated us well. Unfortunately, I learned that our numbers for
our mission are pretty low, and I’m just sure our mission president is just
stressed out of his mind about that. They gave a training about how we should
work more with members and inactive members. Also, in another training they
talked about the power of the Book of Mormon, and how it’s such a powerful
resource that we have.
Yup it was awesome, and as usual, I
played the piano. Then we took pictures and parted ways. We arrived here in Barreto’s,
and visited some people. Then Sister Kannar wanted to take me out to eat acai,
to celebrate 15 months in my mission (CRAZY!!) So, we went to a place close to
our house, and there were like only 4 people in there. They noticed that we weren’t
Brazilians, so they asked us were we were from? Sister Kanner said she was from
Australia, and I said I’m from Washington State in the USA. YOU GUYS- they were
from Washington State !!!!!!!
HOW SOOOOOO?!?! So it was a couple,
she is from Barretos, and he is from Yakima area !!! She went to be an Au Pair in the US and met
her husband online, they got married there, and then came to Brazil to have a reception,
and for him to get to know her family.
He doesn’t speak any Portuguese,
and was super relieved to finally talk with someone else other than his wife in
English, LOL. What are the odds of
meeting someone from the same small state and area thousands of miles away? I
still can’t believe it!! God definitely
puts us in the right place at the right time. The other two people in the photo
are friends of the wife from Seattle, WA. They came for a visit.
I love you sooooooo much! Hope you
have an awesome week!!!
With love from Brasil,
Sister Pierce
What are the odds of meeting someone halfway across the world, in another country that is from “Yakima, Washington“? Yes, you heard me right!! This person and his wife we met at the ice cream place last Friday called “Gerrards” Grew up and lived only an hour or so away from the place I call home. That’s crazy! Loco, right? Here’s the picture and conversation they had with my parents:
